Gayathri
Vijayakumar, associate professor of Biotechnology in the college, which
is affiliated to the Anna University, said International Genetically
Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation, an independent, non-profit
organisation, held the competition in synthetic biology.
Twenty-five
students worked on the project which was part of the environment track.
The contest was held at Porte de Versailles, France, in October. The
college’s project was among the five shortlisted from across the world.
The team from Rajalakshmi Engineering College that won the iGEM contest award for their project.
Called
Curlim, the project aimed to remove toxic cadmium ions from industry
effluents using genetic engineering and synthetic biology tools. The
team genetically engineered escerichia coli bacteria and modified its
DNA. The bacteria can precipitate cadmium ions from the effluent
(wastewater from industries) by expressing the enzyme acid phosphatase
on the membrane, Ms. Gayathri said.
“We
got the best environment track award. Under the environmental track, 50
teams from across the world submitted projects. From India, there were
14 teams — 12 were from national institutes like IITs, IISER and IISc
Bengaluru. The two private entries were from VIT Vellore and Rajalakhsmi
Engineering College, Chennai,” she added.

Sports teams of St Joseph Engineering College — Vamanjoor, Mangaluru
put on excellent performances in the recently held Visvesvaraya
Technological University (VTU) level events in various categories and

A one day Book Fair was organized at the local RVS College of Engineering and Technology in which one dozen publishers opened up stalls with wide arrays of choices.

While
inaugurating the Book Fair, the Secretary of RVS Educational Trust,
Bharat Singh observed, “Book is the main medium of knowledge. Books have
the biggest contribution in the development of knowledge power. I urge
the students participating in this Fair to look at books as your
friends. Knowledge is gained from books in every possible field of
interest and these published material propels your aims and pursuits and
they open your vistas of learning far and wide that electronic media
cannot provide.”
The
Director of the college, Dr RN Gupta stated, “Even in this era of
internet, the importance of books remains at its place and even today
high quality books are guiding our society.”
A
large number of students and teachers participated in this Book Fair
inaugural and purchased books of their choices. The Fair was coordinated
by Dr SP Singh and Librarian Jaimala Sundi. The managing team comprised
Dr Surya Bahadur, Dr Sudhir Jha, Dr Subroto Mahato, Dr Rekha Tiwari, Dr
Dilip Haldar, Dr Rahi Das Kumar and Prof Puja Dutta.
The
Noida Authority has e-auctioned six commercial-builder plots for around
Rs 2,700 crore, the Authority said in a statement on November 15. These
plots, in different sectors, have a total area of over 82,949 sq m.

Infracorporation Pvt Ltd, Designarch Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, Purvanchal
Projects Pvt Ltd, Lavish Buildmart Pvt Ltd (M3M) and Avenue Supermart
Ltd.

They
plan to build commercial shops, office spaces, retail stores, shopping
malls, showrooms, commercial complexes, hotels, restaurants, etc., on
these plots.
Lavish
Buildmart (M3M) Group alone will invest Rs 2,002.41 crore in Noida.
Purvanchal Projects will invest Rs 307.50 crore and Designarch will
